While we all wait for the Star Wars version of Family Guy to come out, along comes this surprisingly authentic-looking Star Wars introduction to the Simpsons. It’s actually a homemade parody by illustrator ‘dude’ Rich Cando. First he’s going to get a big cease and desist from Lukas Arts and Fox. Then he’s going to get a big juicy job offer. On the internet that’s known as a win-win scenario.

Simpsons and Futurama Make Good Anime (As Does Calvin and Hobbes!)

If you haven’t seen the work of Space Coyote yet, you probably will soon. The anime renditions of the entire Simpsons clan have started opening a few doors. These are essentially reverse caricatures, or re-caricatures, pulling the main identifying features from one genre to another. Space Coyote is very good at this, and continues to draw Matt Groening characters, as well as other well known and stylistic cartoon icons like Calvin and Hobbes.

The Simpsons Movie Personal Avatars

If Matt Groening met Jason Theodor, this could be the result: a geeky Simpsons character, wearing a Ze Frank T-Shirt. You can log in and make your own from a limited array of choices (not unlike creating a Nintendo Mii), then save them and print them. Toysrevil has made a Simpsons Avatar flickr group to share your cartoon creations. My guess is you’ll be able to embed them on MySpace soon (since they are both Fox properties). I had to take a screenshot to upload this to my facebook profile, but I’m not holding my breath for a NewsCorp facebook app. This is a fabulous way to waste a ton of time, and build buzz for the upcoming Simpsons Movie.

The Real Simpsons

The producers of “The Simpsons” created this live action version of the show’s opening credit as a promotion. Maybe now this wonderful show about a dysfunctional animated American family will finally catch on!
