Simpsons and Futurama Make Good Anime (As Does Calvin and Hobbes!)

UPDATE: This article has been moved to

If you haven’t seen the work of Space Coyote yet, you probably will soon. The anime renditions of the entire Simpsons clan have started opening a few doors. These are essentially reverse caricatures, or re-caricatures, pulling the main identifying features from one genre to another. Space Coyote is very good at this, and continues to draw Matt Groening characters, as well as other well known and stylistic cartoon icons like Calvin and Hobbes.

I keep struggling with the title of this post, because I know that the Japanese style of drawing is called Manga and that the animation is called Anime. Simpsons is an animated cartoon, so it would translate into Anime. However, this is a drawing, so *technically* it should be called Manga. Calvin and Hobbes should be called Manga for sure, but it makes for a very long and awkward title. Please forgive me. 😉

Actually if you think about it, Anime is a drawing of Japan that has been copied in drawings from Americans for ages. Were as, Manga is the comic books of Japan. Manga is made-up backward books to us but they are formally made in japan and translated to English for us to read. Anime is a world used among Americans as “animation” were in japan it is just Anime. If you understand correctly Calvin and Hobs cannot be a manga. Calvin and hobs is a comic book. There is a strained difference between comic books and manga such as, comic books are American, read left to right, fun and not so hurtful, and rarely intense, were as, Manga coming from Japan is read right to left, naturally violent and usually translated from Japanese to English, and most of them have an authentic manga seal on the back

      Thank you for reading.
